Wow. My time in the photography lab has taken precedence over eating, sleeping and other classes. I told my instructor that I have a love/hate relationship with the course at this point. I think we cover enough material to justify two courses. I would rather get good at something than ram-jam through twice as much material and feel as though I have mastered little. I hope that my feelings of being overwhelmed subside before the end of the semester.
I have gotten a pretty good handle on black and white film developing and print making in a short time. However, there is more to photography than the technical skill. I am still struggling with the creative side of things. I have picked up a little bit on the creative side, as well. However, I think some firsthand examples as well as quite a bit more practice will be needed for me to progress to the point I would like to be at by the end of the semester.
I see some of the work of past students of the course and often wonder how I will ever progress to that point. I suppose if I look at the big picture, my photography has improved considerably. However, I had nothing other than room for improvement. I just have to continue working on blind faith, believing that if I keep putting forth exceptional effort my skills will improve accordingly.
In the mean time, I need to find balance. It seems that by the time I am done with my assignments for ART 315, I do not have the appropriate time to dedicate to other things I need to do. Also, "leisure" time has been non-existent. Is Spring Break EVER going to get here?
